Call Out: Bringing the Wobblies to Sudbury!! Feb. 24th 2008.

Call Out: Bringing the Wobblies to Sudbury!! Feb. 24th 2008.

Sudbury has a long history of labour organizing and activism, there have been many strikes by the tough men and women of the mines; many people in Sudbury have come to forget the way labour battles were won against the bosses. Many unions in Sudbury have forgotten how to strike and fight to win. At one time there could be no peace between boss and worker, now union leaders actively encourage collaboration with the bosses. The latest CAW deal with MAGNA international contained a no strike clause; this clause demonstrates that workers have been lead down a road of impotence by their leaders.

The method of following the labour relations route enshrined in legislation is proving to harm workers. We have seen our jobs be sent to other countries, replaced by robots and replaced by temporary workers, or devalued by the boss. The labour laws in our country have contained nothing substantial to protect the overall working class. Successive provincial governments have used back to work legislation to break our strikes, they have used goons and police thugs to intimidate us, and our union bosses have let that happen and continued to let the capitalist bosses get away with it. At the same time many workers are left unorganized in the first place and cannot even benefit from inefficient union bureaucracy. Unions have made many gains for workers, but the big unions have lost their momentum, we need to make things move again ourselves.

There is a solution to these problems, we as workers can get together and win in our struggles against the bosses, in the union, business and government. The solution is two fold:

One
) we need to band together as rank and file workers in every industry (from manufacturing to customer service) and create a democratic union without bosses, where we all have the power to decide how we fight.

Two
) we need to fight to win, we need to strike to win, and take all forms of job action to win. The labour legislation in Canada and its provinces are made to keep the workers down and let the bosses win. We need to recognize that the law isn’t what will save us, solidarity and commitment is. Workers from all industries need to support each other, and we need to fight for each other. We need to strike and join the picket lines of every other worker. Only together can our battle against the bosses be won.

With this in mind we in the Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) are mobilizing in Sudbury. Our aim is to build a solid foundation of IWW membership by the end of Summer 2008. This is a call out to all people in support of labour struggle to lend support to this grassroots initiative, but also to join up as members themselves. The IWW is a place for every worker, no matter race, gender, sexuality, political orientation, religious beliefs; the IWW welcomes every member who works for wages or salary and does not have the power to hire and fire. In the IWW everyone is equal and has a vote, this may seem like Politically Correct/liberal crap; however, Wobblies the world over feel and think that the Bosses use racism and other similar ideas (like sexism) to divide workers so they can never win their battles for democratic worker control and fairness/equality. A queer worker is still a fellow worker and therefore a friend, ally and companion in the fight against the bosses.

If you are interested in more information on the IWW, in Sudbury or elsewhere please contact us. If you want to join and begin to help us fight the bosses please contact us. To a world without bosses….
